About Bazaar

Bazaar is an independent platform that aims to remain free and ad-free. However, maintaining and improving such platform requires time, effort and funds for database servers, content hosting, CDN, third-party services and communication to spread the word.

Homemade platform

The Bazaar journey started in 2014 and has been evolving out of a simple idea: build a pleasant online place where people can share any kind of content, discover things and areas they’re not familiar with — away from the big services available at the time.

We’ve always been a small team of 2 freelancers, building on our spare time when we’re not too busy with client projects, spending our own savings to cover costs. Now that Bazaar is growing, we need to plan ahead as costs will only increase as more people join. A free, ad-free and functioning Bazaar is not sustainable without financial backing.

The common struggle

We’re not looking for profit (if profit happens, we’ll be glad). Our goal is to be able to maintain and keep improving Bazaar, not being drowned by costs and forced to shut it down.

Our thoughts:

What we don’t want Bazaar to become

  • A platform filled with obvious or nonobvious advertisement.
  • A platform that analyzes your behaviour and private life in order to serve you “relevant” ads and content.
  • A backed startup or venture that is guided by profit.
  • A platform where users spend money to be visible.

What might be considered if Bazaar’s life is threatened

  • Displaying non-targeted ads to earn revenue.
  • A Premium plan that would give access to more advanced features such as: API to display your content elsewhere, nested collections & spaces, cloud storage sync, content export, custom domain, PDF support, ...

We’re still trying to figure things out and orientations also depend on the feedback we’re getting from people who use the platform daily.

We’d be happy to hear from you whether you donate or not. Feel free to contact us if you have any feedback, thoughts or questions.
